Coverage and Satisfaction
The health care system in California is the sum of its parts. While the costs of medical care remain a concern, most Californians are satisfied with the health care system, the health care they receive and their health insurance plan.
More Californians Are Insured
Today, about 93 percent of Californians have health coverage. California has seen significant improvement in the number of insured residents since 2014, when the Affordable Care Act (ACA) expanded coverage. In 2013, only 82.5 percent of Californians were insured. Much of the coverage gain is due to increased enrollment in Medi-Cal, while Covered California continues to see robust enrollment.

The Benefits that Matter Most to Consumers
When it comes to health care, California health plans have individuals and families covered, offering the essential benefits that matter most to people at every stage in life.
Many health plans go above and beyond the basics, providing individuals and families with extensive benefits, more choices and added convenience and technology to improve their experience, such as digital billing and online appointment scheduling.
Prevention is the best medicine for living a healthy, vibrant lifestyle, and health plans cover the full cost of many preventive services—such as wellness checkups, vaccinations and health screenings for cancer, high cholesterol, depression and type 2 diabetes—so members can be proactive and won’t pay anything extra.
Voters view insurance benefits as either very important or absolutely critical.

Financial Security and Peace of Mind
Having health insurance brings consumers peace of mind that they’ll have access to health care services and providers when they need it. People also value the sense of financial security they get from knowing — in the event they themselves or a family member becomes seriously ill — they will be able to receive the medical care necessary without facing a devastating, out-of-pocket financial burden. Health insurance is especially critical for people with chronic conditions who can depend on the medical services health plans consistently and reliably provide to meet their needs.
